oz in o-town

the last few weeks have been filled to the brim visiting with family, friends and neighbors. i have gone to the State Fair a few times with my mom, spent a lot of time lounging by the lake, attended Kevin's 4th birthday party, and hung out with Emma quite a bit! in fact, i've done so much i can't actually remember it all, so i'm just focusing on my favorite parts. =) (except for things i don't have pictures of, obvi.)

two nights ago, i took emma to the wizard of oz-fest in downtown o-town. little did i previously know, but the world premier of mgm's wizard of oz was shown at the strand theater in downtown oconomowoc on august 12th, 1939. to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1st showing, main street in oconomowoc was blocked off, a 40 foot inflatable screen was brought in to play the movie, all the businesses were open late (and had oz-themed store front windows which were very well done), movie characters were everywhere when you walked up and down main street (if you could make your way through the crowd) and a commemorative plaque was dedicated at the location of the old theater.

emma and i "followed the yellow brick road" and met these characters. she graciously let me take a picture of her with them, so i didn't have to look silly getting one with myself in it.

i didn't even know oconomowoc HAD 5,000 people, but that's how many showed up for the event! the sidewalks were so crammed it took about 15 minutes to walk a full city block.

we didn't stay for the movie, because emma and i have both seen it and i was/am still pretty sick, but overall the experience was fun fun fun, and i'm really glad i went and got to spend some quality time with my "little sister".
