a day in the life

...a typical day in the life of this dental student

monday monday-
6:45am- wake up late, because you went to bed at 2am finishing making wax occlusion rims and studying for pharmacology exam

7:10am- hair pulled up, grabbed a banana and some caffeinated tea, leave the house

7:11am- spill tea on yourself...where did that pesky rubber lining that should've been in the lid go??

drive to school, listen to the country radio dj talk about how great the toby keith concert was (you had a ticket, but you had to study. fail. remind yourself you will have an extra $30 to spend?)

7:40am- arrive at school

7:45am- sit farther back in the classroom than usual. start polishing occlusal rims so you can hand them in before clinic.

8:05am- quiz, an hour of lecture

8:55am- 5 minute break between lectures. go to the 3rd floor to hand in occlusal rims. pray no one steals yours before the professor puts them in her office. pass professor for the next lecture in the hallway- "you guys better hurry up, i'm givin' a quiz, you don't wanna miss it!"

9:02am- quiz, an hour of lecture (review flashcards for exam)

9:53am- run down to your locker to put away materials from polishing occlusal rims, pick up instruments and supplies for clinic (which you haven't reviewed for!) hurry, you are already 3 minutes late for clinic!

9:58am- arrive in the clinic, find your chair assignment and look at the chart to find out what you're doing. hope and pray your patient doesn't show so you can review for your exam...usually you'd wish for the opposite!

10:12am- your patient has arrived. get to work.

1:15pm- finally finish placing sealants on the patient's two teeth. yep, it took that long to find and wait for your professor several times, learn how to do each step, and write up all the things that you did in the paper chart. and then transcribe them all into the computer. because that's how your school works.

1:20pm- head into the quiet lounge to review for your exam. eat two handfuls of goldfish crackers for lunch.

2:00pm- exam time, but half your class isn't there yet.

2:16pm- you start your exam, because your computer works.

2:32pm- classmates are still very noisily filing in and out of the classroom because their computers won't download the exam file. the professor is still making announcements every three to four minutes, while you're actually taking your exam. you basically want to scream.

4:16pm- your exam shuts down, you are out of time. good thing you at least filled an answer for every question! proceed to pray that you passed.

4:45pm- carpool home from school

5:45pm- arrive home, eat lunch/dinner (linner?) and start studying for your quizzes the next day. sheer exhaustion!

do it all over again. :)
