UNTIL I GO HOME!!!
this is the longest period of time that i've ever been away from home, and i'm very excited to see my mom again. she's getting remarried on the 3rd of july, so it will be a really fun visit, and we have loads of girl talks to catch up on!
i feel like i kinda missed out on her wedding planning...it's not going to be a huge deal since it's her 2nd marriage, but it still would have been fun actually being with her to help her pick out flowers and invites, etc. she's kinda stealing my dream wedding, but i don't mind. it's going to be a wedding on the lake, followed by a fish fry. then on the 4th of july we'll be boating all day, have TONS of food (bbq, yum!) a live steel drum band and the big fireworks show over the water. i'm going to get to catch up with all of my mom's best girlfriends which will be a lot of fun, and hopefully get to see a few of my friends from church as well. =)
the one thing i really want to do while i'm home though, is watch You've Got Mail with my mom and heidi. You've Got Mail has been one of my favorite movies since it came out. it kind of symbolizes "girl's night" at our house. whenever my mom, my sister and i are all together, that's the movie we watch; the three of us have it memorized and could probably recite the entire movie from beginning to end if we put our heads together. we used to watch it on VHS, but we actually wore the tape out and were forced to buy a new copy on DVD! ridiculous. i'm sure when we're home next weekend there will be a viewing party, hopefully accompanied by some Kiltie custard. mmmmm!
i think the reason i love it so much (not only because it's kind of an adaptation of pride and prejudice...guilty pleasure) is because it's nostalgic. it makes me want to live in a time where we have quaint little book stores around town and write letters as a primary form of communication. it also just reminds me of my teen years, being at home with just the girls: my mom, heidi, and the kitties, a bowl of popcorn and lots of colors of nailpolish to choose from! now that we're living so far away and my mom and her man will be officially hitched, the movie parties may be fewer and farther between, but i'm looking forward to them all the more.
