i listened to a sermon on my way to school this morning/during my removable prosthodontics lab and it made me think about how faithful God is. the sermon focused on 1 peter 1:1-2, and i'm amazed at how much can be unloaded from two small verses that i would normally skim right over, thinking nothing of them.
the word "foreknew" in particular is pretty incredible. that one word siginifies so much! that God knew us before He created us. He knew that He would create us, He knew how He would create us, He knew we would love Him, but He also knew we would sin and need His grace, His love and desperately need a Savior. (1 peter 1:20) we were loved by God before even time began (before humans existed to make up the concept of time). God elects us, He chooses us wretched sinners who would never choose Him (who stray from Him daily, disobey Him, deny Him), and sent Him to die in the most gruesome, humiliating way. He will never leave us, nor forsake us, because He isn't the one that is lost- we are! we have done nothing to earn God's favor or His love. nothing in us or about us would cause Him to choose us (except for the goodness of Christ dwelling within us- which is all Him). God chooses us out of His own goodness and mercy, His grace and His love. HE chooses US because HE is good. since we have done nothing to deserve this love, we can live and die in confidence that He has already chosen us, with our sins. He has chosen us already knowing everything about us. by faith, we can trust in Christ, receive sanctification of the Spirit and live daily for Christ, without fear.
