jingle all the way 10k

race time!

i ran the jingle all the way 10k today (6.2 miles) in some really yucky weather! jayne, kristin and i headed to the city for the start at 7:30 and actually missed the start by a few minutes because we weren't able to find any parking. it was strange for me to be running near the end of the race (i think around 2,500 people were registered to run), and much less motivating, hah! it was the longest i've ever run, and though my time decreased by a minute per mile, i'm ok with it. there were a few things that i can do better to be more prepared for next time. for starters, i haven't been running much the past two weeks due to a cold followed by final exams, so i can't really expect to do totally awesome without putting in the work. second, the weather sucked! my shoes were wet by the start of the race, and my gloves and jacket quickly followed. luckily the rain was more of a heavy mist and was on and off throughout, but it would've been so nice to have good race weather, especially since the entirety of the race was along the potomac.

highlight: definitely the costumes. i ran near a man dressed up as a snowman for most of the race (he had balloons inside a costume to make himself full and puffy), and i also saw elves, a group of girls hitched up as reindeer singing Christmas carols, and a gingerbread girl! my other high point was that i barely walked at all during the race, but i suppose since i ran slower i really shouldn't have needed to.

lowlight: the rain. i didn't like being wet and my shoes felt a lot different when my toes squished as my feet moved from my heels to the balls of my feet. also, i ran slow.

overall, a great learning experience for me and a good test to give myself an idea of how long 13 miles really is for the upcoming half! it's going to be a long way, but i'm looking forward to running it alongside my supportive mom and sis.

jayne and i post-race. we did it!!!

oh, and i just looked up my official time (it was hard for me to keep track since we started late and the app i use on my phone stopped working mid-way through the race): 68:40, so i ran 11:03 minute miles.
