just friends

...i'm considering this post an adjunct/continuation of my last post on friendships and relationships.

with that said, why don't we just be friends?

those aren't words anyone likes to hear from someone they're interested in. they're not easy words to say either though. and yes, ryan reynolds is really good-looking, but even that couldn't save the movie he starred in from being terrible.

but the question is out there...can men and women really be just friends? or in any male-female friendship is there always an attraction on side or the other? according to one of the most famous scenes in "When Harry Met Sally", it's just not possible.

according to Harry, the reason the male-female friendship exists is because one of  the people has an interest. if neither person was physically attracted to the other then there would be no existing friendship. my point of view: can't you be attracted to someone's personality and just "click" with them, but not be physically attracted? or does that only happen to women and not men...couldn't you just have similar interests and due to your attraction to the same hobbies end up enjoying each others company? i guess i think it's possible.

thoughts?

and then there's another whole realm of questions that could be asked...what about all the potentials? how do you know if you're really "just friends" or if someone is keeping you in their pocket (so to say) as a possible potential? you know, once that person they're really into doesn't work out. tricky. maybe those are the people not to be spending time with. do you really want to be someone's second choice or wait around to find out, and possibly miss out on the current options because of a potential future option?

i guess that makes me thankful that i'm not in control of everything. i love and serve a God who has me under His wing, and all i'm responsible for is treating others as i would want to be treated. aside from serving Him with my utmost, all i have to do is wait for Him to put the pieces of my life into order, on His timing, not my own. :)
