today, God is reminding me of his faithfulness. every day, through the highs and lows, he is ever present, he is the one constant in this life of chaos. i'm doing a 1 year reading plan of the old testament (it's an app for your iphone, or you can do this online at www.youversion.com. very cool- they have all sorts of reading plans to keep you on track!), and before this morning i was about a week behind.
i needed to catch up before i got too far behind to even continue the reading plan, so this morning i read 7 chapters of Genesis and covered almost the entire story of Joseph- from his brothers casting him out because he was favored by his father, to Joseph forgiving his brothers and blessing them richly with good land in a time of famine. for the record, i don't recommend reading so much at a time- you lose the time you need to really process what God puts on your heart. nonetheless, God got me thinking.
God brought years of famine upon the land of Egypt, but he also provided a way out of starvation. God provided the Pharaoh with Joseph. Joseph was in close communication with God, and because of that, he was able to prophecy that famine was imminent and save the people from death. the people of Egypt sold all their livestock, their land, their entire livelihood to Joseph and the Pharoah and were lowered to the status of servants to save themselves from starvation. it made me think, why did God let them fall into this situation? that's awful! why didn't he provide for them? but then i thought ahead into Exodus, and God was again faithful. he freed the people from their slavery and bondage. he provided a way out. God showed that he is faithful and that we can count on him to provide time and time again.
it's no surprise that this story is still relevant and can be applied to our lives, because as you know, God was and continues to be faithful to us. he provided us our own way out in the form of our Savior. it's too too sweet to be true. but that's what makes it all so incredible.
